What is the American Idol all about?

TV viewers vote each week to decide which contestants should remain and advance to the next round. As a result, we see the elimination of one contestant each week. Three often arguing judges assess each performance before viewers send in their votes by phone. This goes on until only two remain for the finale when the final competition to determine the winner takes place.

This TV reality show is one of the most popular talent search contests that is being watched by millions over the world. It follows and mimics the successful British show "Pop Idol".

The 2002 American Idol was Kelly Clarkson who beat finalist Justin.

The finalists for American Idol in 2003 were Ruben and Clay with Ruben being named American Idol.

In 2004, the finalists were Fantasia and Diana with Fantasia being named American Idol.

In 2005, the finalists were runner up Bo Bice and the eventual American Idol Carrie Underwood.
